The DJI RS 5, the latest lightweight commercial gimbal in the popular and acclaimed DJI Ronin series, was officially launched on January 29, 2026. Following a previous exclusive China market announcement, the new model brings enhanced stabilization, smarter features, and increased efficiency to videographers, solo filmmakers, content creators, and run-and-gun shooters of mirrorless or DSLR-based cinema cameras.
The new RS 5 represents a step forward from previous models, with a new fifth generation of DJI's already impressive stabilization technology providing a 50% increase in peak motor torque, providing a much smoother footage experience, especially during dynamic movements such as walking, running, or quick camera pan, and even when transitioning from a horizontal to a vertical camera orientation.

The new model responds better to footsteps, and features such as fine-tuning knobs with Teflon™ coating, a new Z-axis indicator to reduce camera shake when shooting vertically, second-generation automated axis locks for power-up and power-down, and low-friction axes make it even easier to balance the camera and gimbal combo. Another major improvement is the optional RS Enhanced Intelligent Tracking Module, which is available in the combo kit or as a standalone accessory for around £75. With it, videographers can directly select a subject on the screen of the gimbal itself, rather than needing a smartphone. This is particularly useful for effortless tracking of people, cars, pets, or any other object of interest at distances of up to 10 meters, which can prove invaluable in documentary, event, or solo filmmaking where subjects can move unpredictably.

Battery life is another area where there are significant gains: it now takes just an hour to charge up the RS 5, which represents a 60% improvement over the RS 4. There's also a 15% increase in battery life for up to 14 hours with the standard BG33 Battery Grip. Of course, there's always the option for longer battery life with extended grips, which could stretch up to 30 hours.
The gimbal can handle a 3kg load (6.6 lbs), which means it's perfect for mainstream full-frame mirrorless systems as well as lighter cinema systems. We're also seeing a relatively lightweight of 1.46kg with the battery grip and quick-release plates.
There are new accessories available too: the Electronic Briefcase Handle will cost you about £59 and allows for comfortable low mode as well as a briefcase-style mode with built-in gimbal controls. There's vertical shooting too, without the need for extra equipment.

The standard kit will cost you £485 and includes the gimbal, quick-open tripod, quick-release plates, and cables.
The new DJI RS 5 will be available now from B&H Photo, as well as other authorized retailers.
