Nikon Nikkor Z 24-105mm F4-7.1
The Nikon NIKKOR Z 24-105mm f/4-7.1 is a budget-friendly standard zoom lens for Nikon Z-series mirrorless cameras. Announced in January 2026, it is presented as a budget-friendly, all-purpose "walkaround" lens, perfect for entry-level Z-series cameras like the Nikon Z5II. It offers a useful 24-105mm zoom range (4.4x zoom) for everyday shooting, covering landscapes at the wide end, travel and street photography in the middle, and portraits or distant subjects at the telephoto end, as well as occasional video work. It is extremely lightweight, weighing only 350 g (12.4 oz) and measuring only 107 mm (4.2 in) in length, making it one of the lightest and smallest full-frame zoom lenses in this range, thus perfect for all-day wearability, travel, or pairing with entry-level Nikon Z-series cameras without any fatigue. It has a plastic construction, including the mount, and is sealed for dust and drip resistance for protection in adverse weather, although it lacks a built-in lens hood, which is sold separately. It has a customizable control ring, which can be set to aperture, exposure compensation, or ISO, as well as a stepping motor (STM) for quiet, relatively fast autofocusing with low focus breathing, perfect for smooth video transitions. It lacks optical image stabilization, relying on the camera body's IBIS, as well as a dedicated AF/MF switch.
The lens shines in close-up photography, with the closest focus at 0.2 m, increasing to 0.28 m at 105mm, with a maximum of 0.5x magnification at 70-105mm, ideal for half-life size macro photography of objects, food, etc. It has standard 67mm filter threads. The lens is priced at around $549.95, which is often discounted when bought as a bundle, making it an ideal lens for beginners, travelers, or photographers looking for a lens that can handle different scenes without the premium price tag or bulk. The lens has good image quality in good light, with good center sharpness and pleasing bokeh, considering the price, though the variable aperture is not ideal in low light at longer focal lengths, with softening at the corners when wide open, sharpening as the lens is closed down.

Lens Construction and Optics
The lens has a clear 12-element, 10-group configuration, with an ED glass element and two aspherical elements, which work together to reduce chromatic aberration, distortion, and spherical aberration throughout the zoom range. It has multi-layer coatings that reduce flare and ghosting in bright light. It has a 7-bladed rounded diaphragm, which produces smooth bokeh when closed down, although the variable aperture, starting at f/4 and reducing to f/7.1 at 105mm, affects the depth of field at the tele end. Autofocus is internal, using an STM stepping motor, which keeps the lens length constant and enables close focusing without extending the barrel. It has a lightweight plastic construction with dust and drip resistance at the joints, as well as a custom control ring. It is built for compact size, light weight, and economy, producing sharp images, strongest in the center at mid-aperture settings, and has low distortion, which can be corrected in camera, making it suitable for everyday hybrid photography.
