If you are one of the early adopters of Nikon's ZR full-frame cinema camera, released in October 2025, we've got some exciting news for you. Nikon has released the first firmware update after the launch of the Nikon ZR cinema camera. The Nikon ZR cinema camera firmware version 1.10 is available to download from the Nikon Download Center. This is the first firmware update to the Nikon ZR cinema camera, upgrading from the previous firmware version 1.01.

Nikon has released the much-awaited firmware update to the Nikon ZR cinema camera, just a few months after the launch. This is a testament to Nikon's commitment to firmware support for the Nikon Z series cinema cameras. Although it is not a major firmware update, as the version has not been bumped to 2.0, the update addresses many practical concerns that hybrid photographers and video producers face while working on their projects.

What's New in the Nikon ZR Cinema Camera Firmware 1.10?

The Nikon ZR cinema camera firmware update 1.10 addresses many concerns that video producers face while working on their projects. According to the Nikon support team, the Nikon ZR cinema camera firmware update 1.10 is divided into the following categories:

  • ■ Video shooting related
    • • The maximum recording time for a single video recording has been extended.
    • • When [Video recording file format] is set to [R3D NE 12-bit (R3D)], a warning line indicating overexposure is displayed on the high-brightness side of the brightness information (histogram, waveform monitor).
    • • It is now possible to set the [Video Recording File Format] to [R3D NE 12-bit (R3D)] even when the shooting mode is [AUTO].
However, the shooting mode will be set to [M].
    • • Added [File name setting for videos].
The file name will consist of the reel number, clip number, shooting date, etc.
    • • [LTC Signal Input] has been added to [Timecode],
which allows you to synchronize the timecode with a timecode generator connected to an external microphone/line input terminal.
  • ■ Operation related
    • • The maximum number of files that can be displayed in [Import CUBE File] under [Custom Menu] g15 [3D LUT] has been increased to 50.
Also, CUBE files that start with "." (dot) will no longer be displayed.
  • ■ Display related
    • • The Power Lamp Power Saving Display option has been added to the Setup Menu.
When set to OFF, the power lamp will remain lit while the camera is turned on.
  • ■ Network-related
    • • Some of the instructions displayed on the camera when connecting to the Nikon Imaging Cloud cloud service have been changed.
(The procedure for connecting to Nikon Imaging Cloud remains unchanged.)
  • ■ Other
    • • The following issues have been fixed:
      • - When live streaming via USB streaming, noise may occur in the audio.

How to Update

To begin, visit Nikon's Download Center and select the Japanese page from this location: https://downloadcenter.nikonimglib.com/ja/download/fw/582.html;

English updates will be rolled out in different regions.

Download the update

Using a memory card reader and computer, copy the downloaded file to the root directory of a memory card.
Insert the memory card and start the camera, following on-screen prompts to begin the update.

Why This Update Matters to ZR Owners

The ZR was a bold step into accessible full-frame cinematography with excellent stills capabilities, and this firmware update so soon after its launch indicates Nikon is paying attention. The increased recording time could make the camera a more viable option as a daily driver for indie filmmakers, content creators, or event videographers who require longer recording times without interruption.

If you’re thinking of buying a ZR or already have one, this is a no-brainer. It’s free and improves usability. Nikon has a history of providing excellent firmware updates for their cameras (check out the Z9/Z8 series), and I’m sure we’ll see more updates throughout 2026.
