On October 15, 2025, Venus Optics launched the Laowa AF 200mm f/2 C-Dreamer, the world's first full-frame autofocus telephoto prime lens, for MSRP $1,999. The lens is available in Sony E, Nikon Z, and Canon EF mounts, with the Fujifilm X and GFX versions coming soon. The lens will be popular with portrait, sports, and wildlife photographers who want high-end performance without the premium pricing of Sigma and Nikon high-end lenses.

The lens comes with advanced 11-element, 7-group optical design, with Super ED and aspherical elements ensuring tack sharp images, minimal chromatic aberrations, and beautiful bokeh quality produced by the 9-blade aperture design. The fast f/2 aperture performs well in low light conditions, and it is also capable of 1.5m (4.9ft) minimum focus distance and 0.15x magnification for high quality close-up shots. A high-torque stepper motor will ensure fast and accurate focusing, ideal for capturing moving subjects.

Compact at just 1.6kg (3.5 lbs) and 232mm long, with a magnesium alloy weight, an Arca-Swiss tripod collar, and dust/moisture sealing. Additional features include drop-in 43mm filters, customizable Fn buttons, an AF/MF switch, and a focus limiter. Available in gray or blue, pre-orders have opened, and shipping will start in late October, forcing the market to rethink the performance value equation in high-end telephoto lenses.
