The Nikon Coolpix L15 is an 8 megapixel digital camera with a 3x optical zoom lens. This ease of use is one of the most important selling points of the camera. It is available in black and silver. Built on a custom application of Nikon’s innovative expeed digital image processing concept and incorporating the accuracy optics of a Nikkor lens, the Coolpix L15 is built to realize optimum performance and maximum image quality.

Field proven technology originally developed for interchangeable lenses used in Nikon SLR camera systems, optical lens shift VR image stabilization provides the ability to shoot at shutter speeds as much as three steps slower without blurring the image, whilst also producing a smoother image when shooting. Easy Auto mode makes it easier to turn on the camera and shoot without worrying about settings. Face-priority AF* automatically finds, then focuses on people’s faces for crisp, clear results time after time. In-Camera Red-Eye Fix automatically compensates to help eradicate traces of the annoying red-eye effect that can sometimes be encountered during flash photography. The COOLPIX L15 runs on AA-size batteries, a standard battery size available in virtually every corner of the world.

While the L15 is a huge budget compact in many ways, I certainly come away from the review experience not knowing entirely how to accurately sum up the Coolpix’s performance in part because holding the L15 to the standards of $200 compacts simply isn’t fair. If its performance was roughly equal to a $200 device, the L15 would be one of the most exceptional deals around. For less than $200 these days, Nikon’s entry-level Style series model, the S500, is in a different photographic league, as are similar offerings from Canon, Sony, and Panasonic.

If you can have enough money to pay a little more, the extra features gained by moving up add some speed, some style, some ease of use, and a few headache alleviating conveniences.
